Semi Off Topic: International Women’s Day & Tea

Today was International Women’s Day.

This quote was in the lobby of where I work. One of my patients stopped me in the hall to specifically point it out. He expressed how  meaningful it was for him, in light of our discussions during our weekly group.

I am also a tea lover and I was an unofficial women’s studies minor in university.

So, in honor of International Women’s Day, I thought I would post this quote.

        Me too – it’s the one thing I can’t abide in France – week black or tissaines are NOT proper tea. Proper tea is taken with milk or lemon and possibly a sweetener of some kind and the first cup of the day is the most important moment in many a British life. My daughter is quite a personality!

        I agree wholeheartedly. As a point of interest my Uncle (now nearly 80 years old) had tea plantations in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) but had to flee with his pregnant (native) wife during the Independence War. They then settled in New Guinea growing coffee until things got too dangerous there when they eventually moved to Australia. I remember the excitement as a child when a wooden tea chest would arrive at my grandmother’s house from him and the tea would be divided between she and her daughters homes so including ours. We kept the tea in special caskets and the ritual attached to warming the pot, getting the water at the exact right temperature and brewing the right amount of tea for the numbers at the table and then my mother graciously serving it and keeping the pot warm under its cosy has stayed with me forever.
