This picture was taken at the church near my sister’s house.
Today during a group with my patients, one patient, Angel, said that on Christmas, they eat a birthday cake that says, “Happy Birthday Jesus.” I thought that was such a touching gesture of faith.
For those who celebrate, enjoy your special day!
Merry CHRISTmas! πβ¨π«

We spent a day shopping for a new microwave, as my old one gave up the ghost Erev Shabbos. Yesterday my husband still tried to fix it, but pronounced it unfixable, so we were so lucky that the stores were open today, and even luckier when we bought a huge one (the right color, too) for $89! To celebrate, I microwaved acorn squash and stuffed it with quinoa mixed with black beans and jazzed up with some Indian spices. I consider it a proper celebration!

That sounds supper yum! I hope that you will post it! Congratulations on your new microwave.
You will laugh: friends invited us to go out for Chinese food, and reservations were for 9:00 by 3:00 in the afternoon!

This is funny – Chinese dinner following the “nittle nicht” (that’s Yiddish for X-mas).
Honestly, I was so happy with my new microwave that I forgot to take pictures. Next time…

It seems to be a tradition in NYC: movies, and Chinese food. π

Oh, and I thought it was sushi – the new gefilte fish. I even saw a sushi restaurant in Crown Heights that offered poke bowls.

Sushi is popular all the time. But, Chinese food on Christmas is a βthing.β I think because it used to be that they were the only restaurants that were open.

I guess it’s a NY “thing,” since we don’t have it here. We do have a Chinese restaurant (one!), and it’s not exactly popular. Last night, we went to a monthly “Cigars and Torah” event – my husband and his cigars! – and had a great time.
