Hi Everyone!
I thought I would take a few moments to wish everyone a happy new year!
Just for fun, I thought I would share this funny picture that my friend Lisa sent me.
Finally, one friend sent me this. I liked it so much that I made a picture for it.
Have fun and enjoy!
With blessings,
Carol (with help from Raizel who was my style consultant)
So glad to see you Carol! Happy new year!

Thank you so much. Raizel was very funny. She helped me with the whole thing, very respectfully, “You decide Mommy. It’s your post.” After telling me what she thought was best. I was very proud of her.

This girl is making amazing progress, and you are justifiably proud of her! I am very glad to hear that.

This week Raizel did something REALLY amazing: she cleaned up the whole kitchen while I was at work. That was one of the nicest things she ever did. I am soooooo grateful!

When she graduates from high school, you’ll be able to send her to the seminary here, and she’ll be my student! She is truly mature and responsible, in addition to being nice and helpful.

You have a seminary? If so, I would ❣️ In fact, I was just discussing with my husband about this very topic. It’s very hard to find an appropriate place.

I don’t have a seminary’ I teach in one, and, even though it is not advertised openly, we operate on inclusion philosophy, and every year we have quite a few girls with special needs. I’ve been teaching there since its inception, and this is our 16th year. I love this place; it’s warm, individually oriented, and with great staff. It is Lubavitch, though, but not fanatically so, and not all staff is Lubavitch (I am not, incidentally). Girls live in the dorm and are supervised lovingly, but firmly. You are going to laugh. On Chabad website, Yaffa is featured in their Friendship Circle picture. My husband and I both laughed. Yaffa is so photogenic that her pictures have made it down to Florida. The power of cute. 😊

Could you give a link, please? And tell me which one is Yaffa? Incidentally, two of my former students (in my school, that is, when I had the school for children with special needs) are Friendship Circle volunteers – how is that for giving back!

I sent you an email with the picture. Thank you!
When I saw it on line I just had to laugh 😂

We are looking at the website together. I think she is getting used to the idea.

Raizel was funny. She looked at the site and she said: “it sounds like they have great food.” I said, “well of course! Dolly is there and she is a gourmet chef!” She is really doing well and she actually had an appropriate phone conversation tonight with an old classmate. I couldn’t believe it. She is making such great progress.😊

LOL Food is both delicious and plentiful there, but I have nothing to do with it, other than giving a sushi class once a year. Food is provided by Kosher Central, a nearby catering, and it’s really very good.

Must be. Sushi class sounds fun. I offered to make sushi with her but only with mock crab or lox. It seems as though she only wanted real sushi with raw fish. 🙃

Real sushi doesn’t have to have any fish, actually. Sushi means vinegared rice, and what you put into it is up to you, or nothing at all, just soy sauce. But if she wants raw fish, why not?

I am not sure how to get fish that’s fresh enough. But, maybe if I look around it might be possible to find sushi grade fish? 🎣

Do not believe that “sushi grade” label! There is no such thing. Frozen salmon or tuna steaks are the best, if the color is bright. If you defrost them just a bit, they are easy to cut across grain. Also, there is no such thing as fresh salmon or tuna, as they are not indigenous to Hudson river. They come frozen anyway and are defrosted in stores, so it’s safer to buy them frozen to begin with. You can also buy fresh catch from fishmongers, but then you’ll have to buy whole fish and then scale and clean it at home. The mess is unbelievable!

Ok. Good advice. I can do frozen fish. Now I need to look at your post about sushi so I can figure out how to cut the fish properly. And at least with frozen fish, I only need to defrost as much as we are going to eat.

Good luck! It is advised to cut across the grain, but in reality, as fish goes inside the rolls anyway, who cares!

No cleaning or scaling a fish for me! I am squeamish.

LOL My husband does it, on back stairs.

Yuck! These things are not my forte. It’s quite ironic that I am a nurse. People blood and guts are ok. Animals, not so much.

Hmmm. Should I call them now? Is there support for the special needs girls? This could be very exciting!

What kinds of support services are required for Raizel? Perhaps you should e-mail me dolly.aizenman@yahoo.com to continue this discussion privately. Tell me specifically what is needed, and I’ll talk to Rabbi Leibovics (he is the dean) tomorrow.
